Model 1555 Bb Tenor Trombone
Zig Kanstul created the Model 1555 at the request of Mahlon Collins, creator of the Eazy Bucket mute and also a fine trombonist. Mahlon had a favorite vintage trombone for playing “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You” – signature song of the great Tommy Dorsey. That vintage model 4H became the inspiration of the 1555, but with an improved 7 1/2″ diameter one piece, hand hammered and hand spun bell, a .500″ lightweight nickel slide for fast action and an open blow, and nickel neckpipe and open nickel tuning crook for a more centered sound. The result is the ultimate lead trombone with vintage style but for the contemporary player.
Fast response, centered sound, and lively attack help this trombone cut through the loudest of bands when necessary, but back off a bit and you have a ballad-worthy axe that will make them swoon.
