July 2007 Kanstul Musical Instruments is pleased to have sponsored the first-ever George Roberts / Kanstul Bass Trombone Scholarship offered by the International Trombone Association at last month's ITA Festival and Conference at UNLV. The winner of this scholarship is Thomas Knapp, a student at Texas Christian University. Thomas performs in TCU’s Wind Symphony and Jazz Band, and also with The Salvation Army’s Texas Brass. After an extensive audition process, the field of applicants was narrowed to Knapp, the clear winner in the competition. An international panel of judges was involved in the awarding of the Kanstul Bass Trombone, and included Denis Wick, Jiggs Whigham, Matthew Guilford and Jan Kagarice. Knapp performed his winning piece, Ewazen - a Concerto for Bass Trombone and Piano, live at the ITA Conference held at UNLV in Las Vegas in May. We will still be available for customer service inquiries by phone, 714 563 1000; and by email, sales@kanstul.com June 11, 2007 The ITG was both a fun and productive show for Kanstul. We showed our new C trumpet to some very good players, and they were eager to put it though its paces. By day's end, everyone agreed, the new C trumpet is definitely one to look at! The new model has been designated the 1510-B, and is joining our other Signature series C trumpets, the 1510 and the 1510-A. More information will be posted soon, so check back. We also showed our newest Bb trumpet, the Model 1537. A downloadable flyer is available in pdf (2.5MB download). This trumpet features a medium large bore and No. 37 bell. May 27, 2007 Kanstul will unveil a new C Trumpet at this year's ITG conference. The as-yet-unnamed model features a special reverse mouthpipe and exclusive harmonic balancer. Designed and tested by Byron Autrey, this C trumpet will have outstanding intonation and response - hallmarks of the Kanstul brand - and will be a must-try at this year's conference. The new model is expected to enter production later this year. May 21, 2007 Kanstul is proud to offer an annual scholarship through the ITG. This year's winner is Tim Medoza, a native of Denver, Colorado. Congratulations, Tim, we'll see you in Amherst! Tim Mendoza was born in 1986 and was given his first trumpet at age nine. That year he joined the Colorado Honor Band Association to help develop his playing and remained a member until his senior year in high school nine years later. In 2000, Tim began his freshman year at Denver School of the Arts, a local arts high school. It was here that Tim was very inspired to play music, and in 2001 began trumpet study with Al Hood at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. Tim has also traveled abroad with his trumpet. In the summer of 2004, Tim went on a concert tour of Austria and Hungary with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra led by the Colorado Symphony's Adam Flatt. On this tour, Tim played in many great venues throughout these countries, including the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. For five months in 2006, Tim studied music abroad at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia as a University of Denver Cherrington Global Scholar. Currently, Tim is pursuing a degree in Classical Performance as a junior at the Lamont School of Music, where he still studies jazz and classical trumpet with Al Hood. May 4, 2007 ITG update: Kanstul is pleased to be accompanied by Byron Autrey at this year's ITG Conference in Amherst. James plays a CCT 920, and Tim plays a gold-plated ZKT 1520. "Beauty" is the 6th-longest running show in Broadway history, currently playing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on W. 46th Street. James is the regular 2nd trumpet on the show, but at this performance he was playing 1st trumpet and Tim was subbing in on 2nd. Both trumpet parts in "Beauty" call for piccolo trumpet. James and Tim also studied with a good friend of the Kanstul company, Charley Davis.

Click here to find an authorized Kanstul dealer in your area. There are links to Europe and Asia. The show is strictly industry-only until the last day, which is open to the public. Pictured below is German entertainer Mike Williams. He was actually playing both horns, in harmony.
March 27, 2006 Kanstul hosted a "play along" with the USAF Concert Band Principal and Solo Euphoniumist William Jones last week. The informal meet-and-greet and clinic was followed by a Master Class and recital on Saturday at nearby Biola University. Will was gracious and informative, and is a fabulous euphonium player. He played the Kanstul CEU 975 Compensating System Euphonium, and offered advice on pedagogy and technique. Pictures of the recital are forthcoming, but here are a few pics from the informal meeting in the Kanstul showroom last week. These picture were taken early, because nearly 50 euphonium players from all over southern California showed up! In the pictures below, you'll see just a few of the players, along with the Kanstul euphonium with brass, bronze, and copper bells. Will Jones can be seen playing the copper bell.
